The “SNOWMOBILE CRAZY CASH” raffle is the only fundraising event scheduled for the year. All of the non-reimbursable expenses are funded by this event and dues. At the time of this writing ticket sales are less than 50% of goal.

About the raffle:

·         1^st Prize $2,500.00                                             4^th Prize $500.00

·         2^nd Prize $1,500.00                                            5^th Prize $250.00

·         3^rd Prize $1,000.00                                             6^th Prize $250.00

·         Ticket Donation $20.00

The winners for this event will be randomly drawn at the January 11 membership meeting. The meeting will be held at Hazzy’s Tavern in New Haven beginning at 7:30 PM.

Here’s how you can help:

·         Members were sent 2 tickets in May. If you haven’t already, please purchase and return as soon as possible. If every member family purchased 2 tickets the event would meet goal.

·          If you would like to send us a note with the number of tickets, contact information and a check we will fill your tickets out for you and mail you back your ticket stubs. The address is PO Box 564 Mexico, NY 13114.

·         If you would like to sell tickets please let us know via e-mail to president@mexicotrairiders.com we will get tickets to you.

·         Join us for the meeting and the drawing. Tickets will be available to purchase at that time.

·         Tickets are available at NAPA in Mexico and Drive Way Inn. Both locations will be happy to serve you.

·         Tell your friends!! All are welcome to participate.

 The club realizes the challenges of supporting non-profits like ours in these challenging economic times. The reality is fundraising is vital to our existence. Best wishes for the holidays and thank-you for your support.

President’s Corner

The January fundraiser was a success. More than 210 tickets were sold. Thanks to everyone that participated and a very special thanks to the volunteers and sponsors. We couldn’t do it without your support. Even in these tough economic times the membership and community stepped up to support our organization. Good stuff.

We have been receiving accolades from local and out of town riders regarding the quality of our trails this year. Mother Nature has done her part keeping the temperatures cool and the folks in the groomers have been making the most of the snow we have.

We only have two more meetings before the elections in April. Please let me know if you are considering or would consider a leadership position.

Our next regular meeting is February 9, 2011 at 7:30 at Hazzy’s.

A Board of Directors meeting is tentatively scheduled for February 16, 2011 at 7:30.

We currently have 436 memberships as of 1/18/2011, an increase of 179 since last month.  The maps and decals were mailed out the end of December, with another 100 going out mid-January.   Thank you for joining the Mexico Trail Riders.

It is very important to remember to stay on the marked trail and bring out what you bring in. We took a huge hit this year on the trail system because of someone(s) actions,,,, we lost most of our northern end. We can't afford to loose any more. Please help others remember this as well. Happy New Year!

The big news for this month is the Eis House will again be hosting our annual “Reverse Raffle” fundraiser. The date is January 14, 2010. This is our largest single fundraising event of the year and for the uninitiated, it’s a ton of fun. We hope you can join us and please spread the word. Please contact one of the directors to purchase tickets or e-mail me and we will have them at the door for you. Tickets will be available at the door until they are sold out.

Signing and trail prep is pretty much done. Thanks to everyone that helped out!

Our next regular meeting is January 12, 2010 at 7:30 at Hazzy’s.

Membership / Sled Registration…

Registrations are coming into full swing as the snow is starting to fall and the trails open soon.  We currently have 257 memberships as of 12/15/2010.  We have been able to e-mail 95% of the Snowmobile Vouchers to our members…a big savings for the Club in postage.  The maps and stickers will be mailed out this month.  Thank you for joining the Mexico Trail Riders.

As a heads up, I will be out of town and unable to process memberships January 2 – January 9^th, 2011.  However, you can always obtain your Voucher immediately through the NYSSA web site.  Thanks…  Debbie, Membership Secretary.

President’s Corner

What a great time of year. The holidays allow us an opportunity to connect with family and friends and snowmobile season is just around the corner!

We are making progress in preparation for the upcoming season. We had a great turnout for the November meeting with many people contributing. The January raffle is the one initiative that we do not have a leader for. The primary task at hand is collecting donations from local businesses. If you have the time and energy to help out please contact me, assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

The next meeting is December 8^th at 7:30 at Driveway Inn. We will have a short meeting followed by a social hour with hors d’oeuvres (Palermo style) and a cash bar in celebration of the upcoming holidays. We hope you will be able to join us. One of the benefits of being a member of MTR is the opportunity the club provides to connect with folks with similar interests. These connections help make the club stronger as well.

Mexico Trail Riders Trail Notes Memebership Meeting Wednesday 11/10/10 6:30 Social Hour 7:30 Meeting!  President’s Corner   Greetings from MTR Central.   It was great to see everyone at the October meeting. The participation was excellent and the discussions were valuable.   The November meeting will be November 10 at 7:30 PM at Hazzy’s. In addition to the normal business we will be discussing what is needed to prepare the trails for the upcoming season from a construction and maintenance stand point. We hope to firm up the work weekend dates and more importantly we will be passing around a sign-up sheet for folks interested in helping out. If you can’t make the meeting and want to be put on the list please let us know. There will also be a place to indicate that you are willing to lead one of the work teams.   The last major trail issue is the reroute in Texas/Arthur area. Regular Membership Application 2010-2011 Membership Year is September 1st through August 31st. Any application received on or after April 1st will be credited to the following year. NYS Charities Registration 20-50-85 The Mexico Trail Riders membership is $25.00 per year; with $20 going to the club and $5 to the NYSSA for their basic membership. This is for an individual or family; this includes you, your spouse (married or not) and all children under 18. You may also select to upgrade the NYSSA membership to the Trail Defender level, by selecting this you are doing this in lieu of the basic NYSSA membership, the additional cost is $20. If you have already joined NYSSA through another club you can claim exempt. MTR memberships includes: state registration voucher, decal and a min of 4 issues of Trail Notes, the MTR newsletter. For the DMV voucher we need the EXACT names and address as it appears on ALL registrations. We have provided spaces for eight names, Member, Spouse (married or not) and up to six children, if there are any additional names required please include them on a separate piece of paper or on the back. 35 degrees this morning in Palermo, a subtle reminder the season isn’t that far away.

October is a busy time for membership renewal and registration.

Here’s a couple suggestions that would help us better serve you:

-           Join or renew your membership on line. This saves a step in the process.

-           If you would rather mail a check please print a membership form from the website and mail the completed form with your check.

-           When you receive the renewal form in the mail, please return it with your check promptly.

-           Use the NYSSA website if you need immediate service. They will notify us when you register.

President’s Corner…

September 2010

It’s time to kick off the 010/11 season!

We hope this unusually warm summer was enjoyable.

The first membership meeting of the year will be September 8^th, 7:30 pm at Hazzy’s.

As with years past we have some work to do this fall. Areas that require attention are:

• Re-route in Texas.
• Re-route in the Volney/New Haven area.
• Bridge replacement in Palermo.
• Vacant Officer/BOD positions.

These along with some administrative items will be the main topics for the meeting. There are some pretty heavy lifts here. Need as much input as we can get so please plan on attending.

Our summer fundraising event was a food tent at the Hare Scramble at Gear’s farm in Palermo. The event was a success as it generated almost $1,000.00 for the club. Thanks to everyone that helped out by donating their expertise, time and equipment!

Membership renewal forms are enclosed. Please consider registering your snowmobile early this fall. It really helps get the state funding in our hands faster.

It is with a heavy heart we report the passing of George Toth. George was a founding member of the club and remained active throughout the club’s history. His seasoned advice and rock steady, contemplative encouragement will be missed by all that had the good fortune to engage with him. He touched so much and so many in our club that even the most eloquent words of recognition seem inadequate.

Jim Rerko (our treasurer) is in the process of moving out of Central New York. Because of this he will be unable to continue as treasurer. Jim stepped up in his first year as a member and offered his time and knowledge from which the club benefited greatly. Thank-you Jim.

From the editor… We need your input – (not just because you get a discount on your sled registration) – We all make up our club (defined as an organization composed of people who voluntarily meet on a regular basis for a mutual purpose.)
From our By-Laws - The purpose of the Mexico Trail Riders, Inc. is as follows: • Promote safe and responsible snowmobiling throughout our trail system and the local area by education and the development of a safe and comprehensive trail system. • Promote greater interest in the sport of snowmobiling in the Mexico, Scriba, New Haven and Palermo areas by maintaining current and developing additional trail opportunities for our citizenry and visitors alike.• To improve the public image of snowmobilers by the safe, considerate and courteous use of trails as well as providing snowmobile safety courses to the community.• To cooperate with local officials to develop mutually satisfactory rules for broader and safer use of snowmobile trails in the community.• To develop a fraternal spirit among landowners, townships, businesses and law enforcement personnel.• To accomplish all club goals with the least amount of disruption to private property and the environment. • To collect dues and/or borrow money for the development and maintenance of snowmobile trail system, related projects and other activities that may be permitted by law. APRIL 2010   General… Our next Membership meeting is our annual meeting with elections for the 2010-2011 season.  The meeting will be held at Jeff & Mary's Driveway Inn, 4169 State Route 3, Palermo, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.  Tell your friends and family to come join in on all our fun! Plan on attending our next membership meeting.   Presidents Corner…   This month's meeting will be held Wednesday, April 14th at 7:30 at Driveway Inn.  We will hold annual elections and a short business meeting followed by some social time.  As I mentioned before, this is one of the most important meetings as it's a great way to participate in the process and converse with the newly elected leaders for next season. As this season comes to a close I would like to thank the officers, directors and members that worked selflessly to maintain our trails, equipment, finances, administration, communications, landowner rapport, membership and fundraising.  We had our fair share of challenges this season and as usual the team stepped up and got it done.  Most notable is the number of folks participating increased with some new folks in roles of primary responsibility.  Thanks again. Well that's about it.  Enjoy the offseason.  Don't forget the "High-Gear" Hair-scramble event July 25th in Palermo.  We cook breakfast and lunch for several hundred riders and spectators.  It's always a lot of fun.     Barry   Membership…  Thank you everyone for joining the Mexico Trail Riders.  We cannot close the year without a fond farewell to our good friend Harv Lehtonen, our membership secretary.  Harv could always be counted on to get the vouchers to each member, no matter the hour, and with a friendly smile.  We miss you dear friend!     Sled Registration… Remember to register your sled in August - that will help the trail fund money get out to the clubs faster.   NYSSA NEWS… The Annual Meeting of the Corporation is being held April 16-18th in Liverpool, NY.  The following club members will be attending this educational event:  Jim Rerko, Sal Lanza, Barry Trimble, Debbie Trimble and Tracy Carvell. Please be sure to check out www.nysnowmobiler.com.  A second call for action from NYSSA - Right on the home page is a lot of information and many links for all snowmobilers to take action.   County… At the March meeting elections were held.  President - Ed Montieth (Redfield); VP - Mark Kirkoff (Vanderbilt); Secretary / Treasurer - Linda Middleton (Square Valley); NYSSA District Director - Dan Middleton (Square Valley); Alternate NYSSA District Director - Keith DKLN (Vanderbilt); and County Trail Coordinator - Tracy Carvell (MTR).  The next County meeting will be April 21st at 7:30 p.m. - location to be announced at MTR's Membership meeting.   Trails…. ARE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON.  Please help pick up debris and communicate if you see areas that need attention.  If you want to help out contact the trail coordinator or stop by the next meeting to get your name and number on our list for work duty.   Fundraising… TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE -  2010 Super Raffle sponsored by the Onondaga County Snowmobile Association - 50 prizes totaling over $40,000 on this year's ticket.   Tickets are once again $5 each. For each ticket we sell we get $2.50 back.The first three prizes are snowmobiles: 2010 Arctic Cat F570, 2010 Polaris Rush, 2010 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 Sport. ********** VERY IMPORTANT ************** Be sure to have all tickets turned into Driveway Inn by April 15th.  If you don't you will have to bring them to the Holiday Inn in Liverpool by noon Saturday the 17th or they will not count.  Be sure to put MTR on the bottom of the ticket.   From the editor…   This will be the last newsletter for 2009-2010.  We will start back up September 2010. I would like to thank Debbie Trimble for moving us into the 21st century and getting our newsletter to an online format - this saves us money & our environment.  We will still snail mail the newsletter to members who choose to receive it that way. We are working on making the MTR newsletter more personable with adding pictures.  If you have any pictures from MTR events, please forward them to me at edgex600@netzero.net. Presidents Corner…

Greetings!!

Ok, guess we have to face the fact that we are not going to have a banner year for riding as the snow fall has been less than we had hoped.  March is right around the corner and with a little luck we will get some snow and the temperature will cooperate.  As I have mentioned many times, riding is only part of it.  Belonging to an organization made up of folks with common interests has many benefits.

The March meeting will cover the normal fare as well as continuing discussions on replacing the Bell and preparing for the elections in April.  This will be our last meeting of the year at Hazzy’s.

The April meeting will be held at Driveway Inn.  We will hold annual elections and a short business meeting followed by some social time.  The club will sponsor pizza and wings.  Great opportunity to meet other members and participate in the process (not to mention free food J).

NYSSA NEWS… The Annual Meeting of the Corporation

Each year NYSSA must conduct its Annual Meeting for the delegates from member clubs.  The number of voting delegates at the Annual Meeting from each club is determined according to the By-Laws.  The President will preside over the annual Meeting, unless a presiding official is approved by the Board.  Any voting conducted during a committee report will be presided over by the committee chair.  It is the responsibility of the Board to approve an Annual Meeting organizing committee to be chaired by the Executive Director.  Further, NYSSA shall procure the services of a professional, disinterested third party parliamentarian.  Please be sure to check out www.nysnowmobiler.com.  As a member you can login and read the latest meeting synopsis, read the Online Newsletter, renew your membership, find a list of membership discounts and much much more.

Fundraising… TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE -  2010 Super Raffle sponsored by the Onondaga County Snowmobile Association - 50 prizes totaling over $40,000 on this year's ticket.   Tickets are once again $5 each. For each ticket we sell we get $2.50 back. The first three prizes are snowmobiles: 2010 Arctic Cat F570, 2010 Polaris Rush, 2010 Ski-Doo MXZ 600 Sport.

From the editor…   The Educational Forum – Held at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool, NY, April 16 – 18 2010.  For convenience, the Forum is held in conjunction with the Annual meeting.  It usually begins on Friday afternoon with social activities and networking opportunities in the evening, informational courses all day Saturday, and the Awards Banquet on Saturday evening.  The NYSSA Super Raffle Winners are drawn Saturday evening.

Very often a trade show with snowmobile industry vendors available is held in conjunction with these events. There's a lot to see and do - and every Club should consider sending its full cadre of delegates.

February 2010   General… Our next Membership meeting is at HAZZY’S St Rt 104 New Haven - Wednesday, 7:30pm February 10, 2010. Tell your friends and family to come join in on all our fun! Plan on attending our next membership meeting.   President’s Corner… The January fundraiser was a success to say the least. More than 220 tickets were sold - making it one of the best turnouts ever. Thanks to everyone that participated and a very special thanks to the volunteers and sponsors. We couldn’t do it without your support. Even in these tough economic times the membership and community stepped up to support our organization. Good stuff.   Fundraising will be the main topic of discussion at the February BOD meeting. Our state funding will be reduced by about 23% as compared to the 2008/09 season. This is about $9,000.00 less than we were eligible for last year. Unfortunately, given the state’s significant current budget shortfall and ongoing fiscal issues I expect this trend to continue. We will report the results and recommendations from the Board at the February membership meeting.   Our next regular meeting is February 10, 2010 at 7:30 at the Hazzy’s. We urge riders to travel at "reasonable and prudent speed for the existing conditions". Reasonable means remembering that many families are out riding together, enjoying the outdoors. Slow down when you meet other riders, ease up when you come to a curve, bridge or rise in the trail. If you are unable to control your sled enough to keep it to the right hand side of the trail and stop in a safe and prudent manner -  you're riding too fast! All law enforcement officers of the state, including Sheriffs, local and State Police, State Park Police, Environmental Conservation Officers, and Forest Rangers are authorized to enforce snowmobile laws and regulations. Law enforcement agencies actively patrol New York State snowmobile trails. It is increasingly common to find a road block or a trail block manned by officers checking compliance with legal requirements, frequently at the request of the organized snowmobile user community. State law enforcement aid is available to municipalities for law enforcement programs. For more information, contact the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. You must stop for anyone in uniform who asks you to halt. Please also stop for any landowner who asks you to - it's their property! President’s Corner…

Happy December! What a great time of year. Hunting season is in full swing and snowmobile season is just around the corner.

The next meeting is December 9^th at 7:30 at the Hazzy’s. We will have a short meeting followed by a social hour in celebration of the upcoming holidays. We hope you will be able to join us. One of the benefits of being a member of MTR is the opportunity the club provides to connect with folks with similar interests. These connections help make the club stronger as well. 

There are a couple important agenda items, as we need to discuss plans and schedule for trail preparation and logistics for the January fundraiser.

In closing, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Harv Lehtonen. Harv was very active in the club as membership secretary and could be counted on to lend a hand no matter what the task. His positive attitude set him apart and will be missed by many. We send our deepest sympathy to his family.

Trails…. Trails open Dec. 22, at 8:00 p.m. if we have three or more inches of snow on the ground. Final preparation is underway; there may be a few spots that need some work.  If you want to help out, contact the trail coordinator.

Public Relations… Tis the season to be giving. If you have any time to spare or just would like to take a break from your own busy lives – Consider helping out a food pantry or a local church or a needy family that would love a helping hand for a few hours; ask a friend to volunteer with you; we could even do something as a group if you bring your idea to the next meeting.  Together we all can make a difference.

Safety Course… Pulaski-Boylston Dec. 19^th, Oswego County Public Safety Center, 39 Churchill Road, Oswego. Dec. 13; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 19 and noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 20. Pre-registration is required by calling 349-3259 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Upcoming events…  Save the date – Friday, January 15, 2010 is our annual party. Around the county – Dec. 20^th – Vanderbilt Snowmobile Club will be raffling of a 2009 Ski Doo MXZ Trail 500ss at The Manhattan Moon Restaurant.

November 2009

A little recent history.

From November 2007….

The big news this month is we are purchasing a new groomer (well at least new to us). The membership has authorized the purchase of a 1996 Tucker Sno Cat Model 1000 with a Mogul Master drag. 116 horse power diesel with a turbo to boot…. What more could you ask for? Having three machines should really help given the number of miles we currently have in the system.

From December 2007….

The subject of many of my messages is the contribution so many make to keep the club strong and without a doubt we couldn’t do it without them. This time of year I can’t help but think about the folks less fortunate than us and especially the kids that will go without this holiday season. At the end of the November meeting I read a memo from one of our local charities requesting donations to purchase gifts for local kids. In true MTR style the $25.00 request turned into a $100.00 motion and was unanimously carried. Just another example of the selflessness of our membership. Enough said.

I just wanted to write and express our heartfelt appreciation for the great job you do in both marking the trails within your clubs boundaries as well as maintaining them during this year’s riding season. In closing just wanted to let all of you know your efforts are appreciated!

The October meeting ranks right up there with some of the clubs proudest moments. Several folks stepped up to play significant roles in administrative, trail preparation and groomer preparation. Many were fairly new to the organization while others have volunteered unselfishly for several years. Any organization is only as good as its people. There’s no question we have many of the best. Thank-you

Fall is here!

My oldest son and Phil have been shopping for a beater sled and the garage conversations move from moto-cross to snowmobile season. Ya gotta love it!

October is a busy time for membership renewal and registration. We have some challenges this year with resources so please be patient with us.

Here’s a couple suggestions that would help us better serve you:

-           Join or renew your membership on line. This saves a step in the process.

-           If you would rather mail a check please print a membership form from the website and mail the completed form with your check.

-           When you receive the renewal form in the mail, please return it with your check promptly.

-           Use the NYSSA website if you need immediate service. They will notify us when you register.

Please allow 10 to 14 days to return your voucher.         

We will be continuing discussions on the forming of trail and administrative committees. We are looking for 3 or 4 folks in each area that have interest in leading the development of these committees. Please contact me or Tracy if interested.
